Major fire in Tirumala area near Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh has now been brought under control by the combined ground and air operations of Army and Air Force which are likely to continue till tomorrow. Air Force and Army continued with the fire fighting operations for the second day today to contain the raging fires in Seshachalam Forests that were inching closer to the Holy Tirupati Temple.

Two MI-17 V5 helicopters continued dousing the fire ferrying water using Bambi buckets. These helicopters were pressed into operations since early morning and flew 16 shuttles throughout the day. Aerial recce was conducted with District Commissioner and representative of the Temple Trust onboard a light Air Force helicopter. Meanwhile the C-130 continued scanning the areas for any remnants of the fire in the nearby jungles.
HQ Integrated Defence Staff is in touch with the authorities of the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam and continuously monitoring the Armed Forces response.
